Storm Preparedness
Work and your safety & well-being
- Save our Publix Emergency InfoLine at 1-877-PUBLIX1 in your cellphone. This 24/7 hotline gives you information about closings or adjusted hours for your work location.
- You can also find store hours during weather disruptions on the PASSport home page.
Evacuation routes
Even if you aren’t in a flood zone, there’s a chance you may need to evacuate. Plan your evacuation route and locate local shelters in your area.
Your home
- Many counties and municipalities distribute free sandbags in the days and weeks before a storm.
- Check your area for these supplies or create your own at home.
Supplies
- Water. FEMA suggests storing 1 gallon of water per person per day for at least 3 days. Buy bottled water ahead of time or fill up jugs at home.
- Non-perishable foods. Buy items that won’t go bad quickly, even if you lose power for a few days.
- Flashlights and batteries. Use them instead of candles. Have additional batteries for lamps, flashlights and electronics.
- First-aid kit
- Backup supply of personal care products
- Pet food, baby food or foods for special diets
- Close-toed shoes like sneakers or work boots
- Prescriptions and cash. Refill any prescriptions well in advance. You can refill your order online at rx.publix.com, through the Publix Pharmacy app or in-store. If possible, have at least a 1-week supply of all medications, and any accompanying medical supplies. Have some cash on hand in case electronic funds or ATMs are not available.
- Contact information for your doctors
- Important documents like identification or insurance papers. Make digital copies of important documents and store your paper documents in a waterproof place. Update your insurance if you can’t remember the last time you did. Review your insurance policies annually. Look for your annual renewal reminder of when your expiration date is approaching.
Final prep
- Unplug appliances, like toaster ovens and coffee makers.
- Fill your truck or car’s gas tank.
- Bring loose outdoor items, likepool inflatables and patio furniture inside your home or garage. Loose furniture or things left outdoors can damage your home or your neighbor’s. Items too large or heavy to move inside should be tied down.
- Charge your cellphone and battery packs. Consider solar-powered battery chargers for your devices.
- Bring pets inside or to a safe and sheltered location.
- If you must evacuate, don’t return home until you’re told it’s safe.
