Carol Jenkins Barnett and Publix Community Service Scholarship

This scholarship honors the life and philanthropic work of Carol Jenkins Barnett, former chair and president of Publix Super Markets Charities and daughter of our founder, Mr. George.

Mr. George believed in the importance of being involved in the community and set an example by routinely giving his time, talent and money. Once asked what he thought he would be worth if he hadn’t given away so much, Mr. George answered without hesitation, “Probably nothing.” His philosophy of giving was simple — he believed giving back was a responsibility and a privilege.

Carol carried on her father’s legacy throughout her life and made a lasting impact on so many. She and her husband, Barney, generously supported United Way, Florida Partnership for School Readiness, Family Fundamentals and countless other organizations. Over the years, they also funded numerous community projects.

That’s why this scholarship is named in Carol’s honor.
