Publix Pharmacy announces collaboration in South Carolina

July 22, 2019

Publix Pharmacy is once again collaborating with a health care provider. This time, we’re working with Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, South Carolina, to expand health care services in the surrounding communities. Publix Pharmacy will deliver prescriptions to patients who are being discharged from Beaufort Memorial Hospital, and telehealth centers will be built in two nearby Publix locations.

“Patients are looking for more convenient access to health care, whether it’s treatment for non-emergency medical conditions or easier transitions from hospital to home,” said Vice President of Pharmacy Dain Rusk. “This collaboration with Beaufort Memorial Hospital will provide residents of the Beaufort community with a medical care option where they shop and eliminate an extra errand for patients leaving the hospital.”

The Publix Pharmacy at #1463 in Beaufort, will fill prescriptions for patients being discharged from the hospital, and a Publix associate will deliver them to the hospital room. Any payments can be made upon delivery.

Customers will also be able to seek non-emergency medical care through the telehealth centers at #1463 and #1205, Bluffton, South Carolina. The centers have a private room with teleconferencing and medical diagnostic equipment, including stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, high-definition cameras and other tools necessary for common diagnoses. Customers use the teleconferencing equipment to speak with a board-certified physician. The physician can direct the customer to use the available diagnostic tools in order to make a diagnosis and write any necessary prescriptions. Publix Pharmacy support staff will be available to assist, if needed.

Visits will be $59, and appointments will not be needed. The telehealth centers will open later this year.
