Publix commemorates Memorial Day

May 27, 2019

The first Memorial Day was held in 1868 to honor Union and Confederate soldiers killed during the Civil War. In 1971, the last Monday in May was designated as Memorial Day to remember all soldiers who died serving our country.

On Memorial Day, we will participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, which asks Americans wherever they are at 3 p.m., local time, to pause in an act of national unity and honor those who died for our freedom.

President Trump has also ordered the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff on May 27. We join our nation in this act of remembrance by lowering the flags at our locations to half-staff.

Publix thanks all past and present military personnel and their families for their service to defend our country.
