We’re on Fortune’s Best Workplaces in Retail list 2023

We’ve been named on the 2023 Best Workplaces in Retail list by Fortune, ranking No. 6 of the 20 best large retail workplaces. Our associates say our support of them, dedication to service, welcoming culture and community support are some of the reasons they enjoy working for Publix.

Care for associates 

We’re committed to caring for our associates. As a company, we focus on supporting and encouraging wellness across all aspects of associates’ lives, including career growth, social well-being, physical health and overall mental/emotional health and wellness. As the largest employee-owned company in the country, we offer associates the opportunity to become company owners through our employee stock ownership and employee stock purchase plans. We also help associates further their education with tuition reimbursement benefits and offer a variety of career paths and opportunities for advancement.

Care for communities and the environment

In addition to being passionately devoted to our associates and customers, we’re committed to alleviating hunger and helping the environment in the communities we serve. We partner with customers and associates to give nourishing fresh produce and nonperishable food to local food banks and monetary support to nonprofits. We also encourage associates to serve their local communities during our 2 annual Publix Serves Weeks, when associates volunteer together across our operating area.  

You also give back to the communities where you work and live through the annual United Way workplace-giving campaign. Your donations support over 100 local United Ways throughout the Southeast. 

Additionally, we believe in making responsible choices that positively affect the environment. Sustainability is ingrained in our culture and guides our decisions in supporting initiatives like donating to protect, restore and conserve areas of the Florida Everglades, giving to the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to help protect ocean wildlife, and funding the planting of trees using a portion of reusable bag sales. 

List methodology

Great Place to Work analyzed survey feedback representing more than 1 million employees working in the retail industry in the United States. Questions focused on their experiences with their companies, including innovation, company values and the effectiveness of leaders.
