Flags lowered in memory of Rosalynn Carter

Nov. 27, 2023

The Publix family joins our nation in mourning first lady Rosalynn Carter and honoring her legacy.

Rosalynn Carter served as the first lady of the United States from 1977 to 1981 as the wife of President Jimmy Carter. She was an advocate for mental health and wellness for all, and a champion for equal rights and opportunities for women and girls.

In 1977, Mrs. Carter became the honorary chair of the newly established President’s Commission on Mental Health. In 1987, Mrs. Carter founded the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers to support caregivers of children, aging loved ones and people with disabilities. She  is survived by her husband, 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

As a mark of solemn respect for the passing of Carter on Nov. 19, President Joe Biden has ordered all U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of interment, Wednesday, Nov. 29. Flags at all Publix support locations will be lowered to half-staff.
