Flags lowered for Pearl Harbor Day

Dec. 07, 2023

Today, we remember the 2,403 lives lost at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, when Japanese forces attacked a U.S. naval station in Oahu, Hawaii. The events of that day resulted in the U.S. declaring war on Japan and entering World War II.

Each year, Dec. 7 is recognized as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. We honor the lives lost that day and pay tribute to those who served in our military and paid the ultimate sacrifice during the 4 years America fought in World War II.

As a mark of solemn respect for the lives lost, President Joe Biden has ordered  all U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff. The U.S. flag was previously lowered in honor of Associate Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and will be at half-staff through the day of interment. Publix will continue to have flags at half-staff at all support locations.

We are grateful for all service members past and present, as well as their families, who continue to make sacrifices to serve our country every day.
