Publix honors Patriot Day

Sep. 11, 2021

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the horrific events that took place on Sept. 11, 2001. Each year on this anniversary, known as Patriot Day, we remember and honor the victims, survivors and heroes of 9/11.

At 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, the first of 4 hijacked planes crashed into the northern facade of the World Trade Center’s North Tower in New York City. At 9:03 a.m., the second plane crashed into the southern facade of the South Tower, followed by the third plane, which crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. The final plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at 10:03 a.m. Known as the deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S. history, the events of Sept. 11 claimed nearly 3,000 lives.

President Biden has ordered the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff until sunset today. As a sign of solemn respect to all victims, their loved ones and rescue personnel affected by the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, all Publix support locations will lower flags to half-staff today. Additionally, our stores will observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. Eastern time.
