Face coverings are optional for fully vaccinated individuals

May 14, 2021

As a result of the recently updated U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, we will no longer require fully vaccinated associates or customers to wear face coverings beginning May 15, unless required by a state or local order or ordinance.

If you’re fully vaccinated

Face coverings are optional. If you’re fully vaccinated and want to stop wearing a face covering, you must provide proof of vaccination to your manager. If you’ve received a Publix gift card for being vaccinated, you do not need to provide proof again.

If you’re not fully vaccinated

Face coverings are required according to the same guidelines that currently apply at your work location.

Fully vaccinated definition

In general, the CDC guidance says someone is considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after receiving

  • their second dose in a 2-dose series (like Pfizer or Moderna) or
  • a single dose vaccine (like Johnson & Johnson).
