Flags lowered to honor former Vice President Walter Mondale

April 22, 2021

Walter Frederick “Fritz” Mondale, who served as vice president of the United States 1977 to 1981, died Tuesday, April 20. As a mark of solemn respect for Walter Mondale and his lifetime of service to our country, President Biden has ordered all U.S. flags to be lowered to half-staff until sunset the day of interment, which has not yet been determined. Publix offices will fly all flags at half-staff.

In addition to serving as vice president, Walter Mondale served as the Minnesota attorney general from 1960 to 1964, as a U.S. senator from Minnesota from 1964 to 1976 and as the U.S. ambassador to Japan from 1993 to 1996.

He is survived by his sons, Ted and William, and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joan, and his daughter, Eleanor.

Our thoughts are with Walter Mondale’s friends and family during this time.
