Publix to offer J&J COVID-19 vaccine after CDC/FDA decision

April 27, 2021

Following Friday’s decision by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), we will once again offer individuals the option to receive the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccination. The CDC suggests women younger than 50 years old should be made aware of the rare but increased risk of blood clots and the availability of other COVID-19 vaccine options for which this risk has not been seen.

Appointments for both the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines are currently available through our online reservation system at publix.com/covidvaccine, while supplies last. After selecting your state, you will be prompted to select your preferred vaccine before being shown which counties have appointments available. You can use the system to learn if appointments are available at a nearby store. If your choice is grayed out, no appointments are currently available for that vaccine. Appointments cannot be made by calling Publix or the Publix Pharmacy.

Our pharmacies only administer to eligible individuals ages 18 and older due to the vaccines we offer. However, individuals ages 16 and 17 are eligible to receive a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, which is not available at Publix. You can check your state’s department of health website for more information about COVID-19 vaccinations.

Your Publix gift card

If you choose to be vaccinated, you can receive a $125 Publix gift card after completing the full COVID-19 vaccination. Visit the COVID-19 Vaccine page for more details.

Costs and insurance

COVID-19 vaccinations are provided at no cost to you. Be prepared to provide your health insurance card or red, white and blue Medicare Part B card. If you don’t have insurance, have your driver’s license or Social Security number available to complete your registration.
