March 06, 2020

March 6 - PROFIT Plan hardship withdrawal

The PROFIT Plan, our employee stock ownership plan, has temporarily expanded its hardship withdrawal provision to assist Publix associates and/or their family members who were affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding in Tennessee.

On March 5, 2020, a major disaster declaration was declared for Davidson, Putnam and Wilson counties in Tennessee. Additional counties may be added to this list, should the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) expand the declaration.

  • What it helps cover: Damages to the primary residence, personal vehicles or both for eligible associates and their family members beginning March 3, 2020, as a result of the severe weather in Tennessee. The costs covered include insurance deductibles and uninsured repairs.
  • Eligibility: In order to receive a hardship withdrawal from the PROFIT Plan, you must be an active associate and vested in your PROFIT Plan account. In addition, you must not have any other means to satisfy the financial hardship. This includes money that is readily available through assets you own and financial assistance available through FEMA and individual insurance policies.
  • Expiration date: Sept. 24, 2021
  • Request form & information: Contact the retirement department at (863) 688-7407, ext. 52327. Supporting documentation for the amount requested to satisfy the financial hardship must be submitted with the form.
  • Distribution of funds: Approved distributions are made from the PROFIT Plan on Fridays during open periods, which are:
    • March 13 – 27, 2020
    • May 8 – June 26, 2020
    • Aug. 7 – Sept. 25, 2020

March 5 - Donations

Today, Publix established a program to allow customers and associates at its Tennessee stores to make donations to a relief fund for those impacted by recent weather events.

Customers may donate any amount by adding it to their grocery totals when checking out at our Tennessee stores. Donations will be channeled through the American Red Cross and designated specifically for Southern Tornadoes and Floods relief. The end date for the program will be determined based on customer response.

Additionally, Publix Super Markets Charities is donating a total of $100,000 to the American Red Cross and United Way for relief efforts for the affected areas.

“Our customers trust us to provide a way for them to donate to help their neighbors in need,” said Director of Communications Maria Brous. “It is our privilege to support our communities when disaster strikes.”
