Publix recognizes Patriot Day

Sep. 11, 2020

On Dec. 18, 2001, Congress designated Sept. 11 of each year as Patriot Day to remember and pay tribute to those who lost their lives and served as heroes during our country’s time of need.

At 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, the first of four hijacked planes crashed into the northern façade of the World Trade Center’s North Tower in New York City. At 9:03 a.m., the second plane crashed into the southern façade of the South Tower, followed by the third plane, which crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. The final plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at 10:03 a.m. Known as the deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S. history, the events of Sept. 11 claimed nearly 3,000 lives.

President Trump has ordered the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff until sunset today. As a sign of respect and remembrance to honor the victims, their loved ones and rescue personnel affected by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Publix locations will also lower flags to half-staff today.
