Flags lowered in memory of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Sep. 19, 2020

The Publix family joins our nation in mourning Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and honoring her legacy.

For more than 27 years, Ginsburg served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Born in 1933, she graduated from Cornell University in 1954 and went on to enter law school as a wife, mother and one of only a few women in her class. She graduated first in her class from Columbia Law School in 1959.

Ginsburg worked tirelessly for over 34 years as a professor, litigator and jurist before becoming the second woman to be appointed to the nation’s highest court in 1993. Believing all groups are entitled to equal rights, Ginsburg was a pioneer for gender equality and worked to secure rights for the disabled.

As a mark of solemn respect for the passing of Ginsburg on Sept. 18, 2020, President Trump has ordered all U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of Ginsburg’s interment.
